How a messy drawer sparked a mission to reinvent the notebook.

At EcoScriber, sustainability and creativity go hand in hand. Here we hear from EcoScriber Founder, Miha Eaglestone, on where it all began, what keeps her inspired, and how a single spring-clean led to a movement to make writing waste-free.

Q: Let’s start at the beginning — how did EcoScriber come to life?

A: It actually started with a bit of a clear-out! I was sorting through my desk drawers and found notebook after notebook — full of ideas, notes, and plans — all just sitting there collecting dust. It made me realise how much paper we use and forget about.

At the same time, as a new parent, I was thinking a lot about the future — about what kind of world we’re leaving behind. I asked myself, can we keep the joy of handwriting, but remove the waste? That was the spark that led to EcoScriber.

Q: What was the “aha” moment when you realised this could be a real business?

A: It came when I started researching paper waste. The statistics were staggering — the environmental footprint of stationery is massive, yet handwriting remains such a natural part of how we think, learn, and plan.

When our first reusable notebook prototype worked — you could write, scan, wipe, and reuse — it felt like we’d found the balance between analogue creativity and digital practicality.

Q: Your “Our Story” mentions that EcoScriber notebooks are “truly reusable.” What makes them different?

A: We’ve designed our notebooks to be reused hundreds of times. The pages are specially coated so you can write with an erasable pen, digitise your notes using any scanning app, then simply wipe the page clean to start again.

It’s still real writing — that satisfying pen-on-paper feel — but without the guilt or waste. It’s stationery that fits modern life and future values.

Q: What challenges did you face when starting EcoScriber?

A: Oh, plenty! Finding genuine eco-conscious suppliers was tough. There’s a lot of “greenwashing” out there, so we had to dig deep to ensure every part of our production — from materials to packaging — truly met our standards.

We also had to challenge perceptions. Some people assume sustainability means sacrificing quality or design. We worked hard to prove the opposite — that eco-friendly can be elegant, durable, and inspiring.

Q: What inspires your designs and materials?

A: Nature is a constant influence. We draw from natural tones, textures, and simplicity — a kind of calm minimalism that reflects mindfulness and focus.

Our products are designed to help people slow down, think clearly, and reconnect with their ideas. I like to think of each notebook as a quiet space for creativity.

Q: EcoScriber has grown quickly — what moments have made you most proud?

A: Our community is everything. The entrepreneurs, professionals and teams who’ve chosen EcoScriber give this brand life. Each story shared reinforces why we started.

And the first time I saw someone using one of our notebooks in a meeting — it hit me: we’d created something that truly fit into people’s everyday working lives.

Q: You now work with clients from small businesses to FTSE 100 companies. How did that come about?

A: It happened quite organically. Businesses are becoming more conscious about sustainability, and stationery is an easy place to start making a difference. Our reusable notebooks help reduce paper waste while still supporting productivity — that’s a win for everyone.

We’ve partnered with companies across industries — from hospitality and finance to recruitment and health — who share our vision of working more sustainably.

Q: What are your hopes for EcoScriber’s future?

A: I’d love for reusable stationery to become the new normal. We’re developing new formats and designs. I want EcoScriber to not just be a product, but a platform for positive change.

“I want EcoScriber to be synonymous with writing that doesn’t cost the planet.”

Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own sustainable brand?

A: Start with your why. If sustainability is truly at the heart of your mission, people will feel it. Be transparent, be patient, and don’t compromise on your values — even when it takes longer to get there.

And remember: small actions create big impact. Every sustainable choice, however small, moves us forward.

Q: Finally, how do you hope people feel when they use an EcoScriber notebook?

A: Inspired and intentional. I want people to feel grounded when they write — to know that their ideas, plans, and notes are part of something bigger.

“Rewrite what it means to create — with tools that honour the planet, and ideas that outlast the page.”
